Hydroxyacylglutathione Hydrolase

AMW:CHEM:080476

A thiolesterase that catalyzes the production of GLUTATHIONE and D-LACTIC ACID from the hydrolysis of S-D-lactoyl-glutathione. In vertebrates, only one gene that encodes hydroxyacylglutathione hydrolase is known to occur. In yeast and higher plants, separate genes encode the cytosolic and mitochondrial forms of this enzyme.
